In September 2016, Atelier 34zero Muzeum took the side of originality by installing, in its garden, a reproduction of the photographic staging Pissing in Mouth created in 2004 by the American artist Keith Boadwee. The Anglo-Saxon Puritan spirit has made its way into the meanders of the northern districts of Brussels, this work, as well as a few others before it (remember in particular the outcry caused by the Bipolar Perversion of Pascal Bernier in 2010), Had to be withdrawn as a result of vehement protests by several local residents.
It is not the first time that the Atelier 34zero Muzeum undergoes censure, albeit sweet but nevertheless worrying, imposed by a part of the local population whose lack of humor and curiosity paralyzes the public debate. Faced with such a situation, Atelier 34zero Muzeum chose to adapt.
The first goal of an independent cultural institution such as Atelier 34zero Muzeum is to show works of art. It is this imperative that was at the origin of the public art project Advertising for a work of art which will henceforth also be installed within the walls of the artistic center. Indeed, in addition to the banners installed in its garden, Atelier 34zero Muzeum proposes to exhibit reproductions judged too "corrosive" by the conservative fringe of the good people of Jette - and this to avoid a new outburst of insulting criticism. This Salon des censurés - an undisguised reference to the famous Salon des refusés initiated in Paris in 1863 by several dissident painters (Édouard Manet, Antoine Chintreuil, Camille Pissaro), then made possible by the intervention of Napoleon III - , In the great hall of the museum. It also seems important to point out that this project of monumentalisation, of the Social Art type, which allows works to exist in the public space, has been realized with little financial means.
Moreover, this indoor layout will be accompanied by the exhibition of a part of the personal eclectic collection of the Atelier 34zero Muzeum.
Finally, to respond humorously to the chauvinism that increasingly affects our contemporary societies, Atelier 34zero Muzeum proposes you to discover, on this occasion, a work of Keith Boadwee, printed on canvas, with as theme, the American flag!
